Traveling Jordan is like balancing on a ridge between past and present. The country is built on Roman ruins and a rich Nabataean heritage. Centuries ago, treasure-laden camel caravans would travel all the way from southern Arabia to the Mediterranean. After having returned to this little country several times, I find that its biggest treasure is its people – warm-hearted, incredibly hospitable, curious, and eager to get in touch with their visitors to turn strangers into friends.

During our photo trip to Jordan, we would make ourselves familiar with modern and ancient Amman, explore the Roman history of Jerash, float in the Dead Sea and marvel at the famous mosaic of Madaba. We’d spend two full days exploring the stone-carved city of Petra before we head out into Wadi Rum, a photographic playground of endless possibilities with sand dunes and towering sandstone walls, ancient bedouin paths and scenic views. Meeting musicians and bedouin families, street vendors and open-air bakers, guards and guides, on all our trips we gained invaluable insight into what today’s life in Jordan is like …
